review 1: Pure and utter delight. The art is spot on, the dialogue is Adventure Time at its best, and the asides and small Easter eggs are great - my favourite might be "Is this some sort of . . . metaphorical language relying on an ancient cultural misunderstanding of the heart being the center of emotion?" though "There can never be enough fist bumps in any story, whether fiction or nonfiction. DID YOU KNOW: This is one of the few universally-accepted rules of literature?" is a close second. I honestly had my doubts about whether a static comic form could capture the chaos and energy of the cartoon, but Adventure Time's team doesn't just pull it off, they excel - puns and perfectly off-kilter dialogue are beautifully complemented by great panel design and perspective shots, energ... moreetic drawings, and vibrant colours. If you're a fan of the show, definitely read this asap, and even if you're not (yet), it's a great introduction to the silliness, happiness, and curiously deep philosophy of the universe.
review 2: As a fan of the show, which manages to pack so much into every episode, which are only about 10 minutes long each, I was a little concerned as to whether this frenetic energy would translate to the comic book page, I needn't have worried, Adventure Time the comic is every bit as awesome as it is in cartoon form. It also allows stories to stretch beyond the constrictions of any time limit with this first volume crafting an epic story featuring Finn, Jake and friends (and The Ice King) having to contend with the latest nefarious scheme of the evil Lich. It's also worth splashing out a little extra for the awesome-looking Mathematical Edition hardback edition. less
