review 1: I really hate to give a book a bad rating but in this books case, or may I say the authors case, this version of ‘Hot on Her Trail’ was just not a good book in my opinion. But of course you know the old saying, (Opinions are like ass holes, we all have one).Jacob McCoy, a rich and successful man from a prominent and very influential family in Kerrville, Texas, a really hot modern day rancher/cowboy has always wanted a wife and family, he’s tired of one night stands that have no meaning. Then one day a young woman shows up and sparks fly. I mean immediate attraction to this mermaid that lands in his water tank.Jessie Montgomery, young girl working as a hotel house crew member agrees to become a surrogate mother of a couple that has some serious issues. After a mix... more up at the sperm bank, she is forced to flee and ends up searching for her baby’s real father and ends up in his water tank mistakenly identified as a mermaid. The story line is a good one and I really enjoyed the characters that the author portrays. Now I’m not one to turn away from a book with hot sex scenes by any means, but this book, literally 2/3 of the book was sex. Now to give the author credit, there is a disclaimer in the front matter warning of explicit graphic sex, but I really didn’t think too much about that, as I said, I don’t turn away from explicit kind of writing. And evidently there is another version of this book called ‘Sweeter Side of Hell Yeah!’ without the graphic sexual content. But as I continued reading this one, I found myself skipping through the sex to get back to the story line itself. It was not until I got to the last 20 pages of the book that the author finally finishes the story line which is really good, and is probably the best part of the whole book. There were cross throughs which I’ve never ever seen in a book before, (and I’ve read more books than I can count), not so many typos per-say but literally cross throughs. (Ex: it, a), and then sometimes it would have some words in red for some reason. The story line is the only reason I kept reading this version. The sexual content was just too much I mean so heaven’s sake, there is one instance that Jessie and a younger McCoy brother gets knocked off a bridge by a passing truck into the Guadalupe River, now bear in mind she’s 4 and ½ months pregnant, she gets hit in her side by the vehicle and after she pulls the kid from the river saving his life, Jacob finds her and wham! Another sex scene. Come on and get serious here, a woman that far along in a pregnancy, rescuing a kid from a river, concerned about the well being of her unborn child is not going to go immediately into a man’s crotch.I know that some author’s can get way out there in story lines on occasion but this one is ridiculous by any means. And what’s up with the modern day set story lines that make all women seem like sex starved fiends? Maybe I’m just too old school, but come on, even in the 21st century, women are, well I might say most women and I’m being hopeful and giving women some credit, we are not that stupid and lame. Most of us would probably tell him to go to hell of a fast horse. Now, I would consider reading the toned down version of this book simply because I liked the story line and perhaps if some of the sex scenes are removed the author has expanded the story line which I would like to see.So in this case for this version of this book RT has to give this a rating of only 2 hearts. But, I did like the cover with a 3 degree rating from RT.Would I recommend this version? Not if you don’t like continuous sexual content. If that’s your cup of tea go for it you’ll love it.
review 2: This series is just wonderful, love it. Second book you fall in love with Jacob. Jacob has a big heart and he wants to find that girl and have a family, little does he know she has found him. Jessie is a sweet girl who had a hard life with no one to turn to when something puts her in a situation she goes look for Havoc, he doesn't know her yet but, she might be what Jacob been looking for. I have loved this series so much. Sable Hunter is very talented writer, she keeps writing some of the best love stories, they make feel happy, sad, sorrow and loved. Keep them coming , if you have not started yet, then I say start first and keep reading. I like that she doesn't do cliffhanger Thanks Sable Hunter for another great book.. Love this family , McCoy'are are great I feel like I know them. Highly recommend to go buy it and enjoy. less
