review 1: I would rate at 3.5. The story line was ok and the text was fine, just sometimes the dialogue seemed a bit off for me.The story is about the realisation by Aiden that he really is gay, despite having denied it all his life. His father's voice is a constant refrain early in the book and I would have liked to know more about his family now and how they would deal, but there is only passing reference to his mother.Aiden's conflicts increase when he meets Trace, a doctor - first as an eye flirtation whilst both on dates with others and then in the ER. Their relationship does move along very quickly and conflicts increase with Aiden's job with the CIA. Trace witnesses Aiden in action - despite having been told to stay in the room, he then appears out in the forest, when will t... morehese people learn! He then goes off on a working trip to S America giving them time to think about their relationship. All in all a good read, with some hot scenes!20/3/13 - reread for whips and kisses challenge - upped the rating to 4 as I did enjoy it- still have issues with the i sta love and dialogue but not enough to spoil the story for me - definitely one I'll be rereading again
review 2: Not That Type of Guy is the sweet and sexy story of Aiden and Trace. Aiden is a CIA agent with a tough job. He keeps people at a distance, especially woman, thinking he really can't get into a serious relationship. After an unexpected sexual encounter with another man, Aiden has to face the reality of his feelings and what he's been hiding from himself. Aiden's character was written in a way that we were able to feel his conflicts and emotions. He had had it drilled into him his whole life that being gay was wrong and bad, and he was terrified of his own true feelings. He had kept them hidden for so long that he was a wreck when those feelings finally made their way out. Trace is a doctor who changes Aiden's whole way of thinking and, ultimately, his life. I liked Trace. He knew what he wanted and wasn't afraid to go after it. The attraction between Aiden and Trace is intense, and they were fun together. The story was good and fun to read. Through the story both Aiden and Trace learn life lessons. Aiden, that you can't fight who you are, and Trace, that things aren't always black and white. One thing that bothered me throughout the story was the way too many emotions. Aiden is supposed to be this tough CIA agent, being put in life and death situations constantly, yet he's an emotional wreck. I get that he is going through a conflict, but I would have liked him more if he were more firm and less teary. I also am not a fan of instant love. Instant attraction I get, but love really needs more time to develop. Overall this was a fun, unique story, and thank you to the author for providing me with a copy to review! less
