review 1: Another instance where Goodreads needs 1/2 stars because this is a definite 3.5 star book. Loved the setting. Liked the variety of characters. Enjoyed watching the fear dissipate from the characters lives as they learned to live the lives they were meant to while learning to be true to themselves. That said, while I enjoyed the story, I found it a bit farfetched. Examples would include the Lisette and Luc sub-plot and the ending in which Wes confesses his sins and Eby says the whole town knew all those years ago, yet, Kate still swoons. Something about it just didn't sit right with me because the believability flew out the window as all the complex loose ends were tied together so neatly in the last chapter without negative consequences for any of the characters . *I recei... moreved this book through the Goodreads Giveaway Program. review 2: I was absolutely thrilled to receive this book as an advance reading copy. I'm a huge fan of Sarah Addison Allen and even take a vacation day for her book releases so I can savor every page of her newest book. And Lost Lake as no exception. I knew once I started reading I would not be able to put it down. This book was just as enchanting as every book before. While she never quite eludes to magic in her stories, there's just something there that makes you feel so magical. Every page was a delight and I can't wait for her next book! less

I received this book as a gift and I had never read Sarah Addison Allen before. I enjoyed this book, and it was a nice quick read at bedtime before turning off the light. I wasn't stirred by it, though. My heart didn't pound and tears didn't come into my eyes, which are my physical reactions to a really engaging book. But there is nothing to criticize -- it had an interesting plot, quirky characters, and a satisfying ending. I would like to read one of her higher-rated novels now, to see if I like it better.
