review 1: I spent 95% of the book being annoyed at Cassie, who acts like a VERY YOUNG 18-year-old. She's brash in moments and then selfish in others, and for most of it she doesn't THINK about anything and just reacts. The only portion of the book I liked her in was the very last chapter when she was finally acting like an adult.I still enjoyed the story, even if the writing style was very...immature? There were points when I actually scoffed at the things that were "announced" in the book (it could've been improved a lot with the idea of "don't just tell me, show me").Anyway I liked it because I like almost any adaptation of fairytales/mythology.
review 2: This is another fairy tale based story, this one based on the story East of the Sun and West of the Moon (I believe... more that’s the official title anyway...) About a girl who marries a man but isn't allowed to see his face. He doesn't tell her why and for a long time she doesn't care. Then one night she decides to look at his face but when she does so he is swept away to be held captive by the trolls and married to the troll princess. The girl must then make the long journey to the troll castle in an attempt to rescue him. This is a modernized version of that story and it’s one of the best versions I've read. I love it. Cassie is a wonderful headstrong red head who knows what she wants and is determined to make things happen the way she wants them too. And the Polar Bear king is a wonderful, gentle, patient and loving man and the way their relationship grows is fantastic. I would highly recommend this book, it’s fun, and a quick easy read. Fairy tale lovers will really appreciate it. less
