review 1: I listened to this book rather than read it; I'm still going to count it in my 2014 totals. It was the first book on tape/cd that I've listened to that was actually an adult book and not a children's picture book. It was an adjustment getting used to listening to a story rather than reading myself. I thought the narration was well-done and while I didn't love the process enough to add audiobooks to my schedule on a consistent basis, I will look into listening to other books. The story was interesting and there were times when I wasn't sure that there was actually going to be a happy ending (there was). The characters were developed and showed a lot of "realness" instead of just predictability.
review 2: I enjoyed listening to this and so did my 11-year-old
... more daughter. It is a simple storyline. It didn't have as much depth or witty dialogue as I usually like in the romances of this era The romantic resolution was also not as satisfactory. There is a scene where the man tells the woman that he has gambled all his money away and is the father of an illegitimate child, and she just kind of accepts it (without due emotion). It seems a little off. less
