review 1: Fabulous book! I just read the first in the series, The Heiress of Highland, just before this. Although I liked the lead male role in Heiress better than his brother William, I thought this was written better. Every chapter was engaging! I will say around pg 120,130 or so I started suspecting how some things were going to unfold, but it wasn't overly obvious and it was a fabulous plot line! I loved it! I liked how Williams character matured, and Patience allowed herself to become vulnerable. The side stories were good as well and I appreciated how it was a little less of a violent ending than Book 1, the Heiress. My only complaint is that the ending with little Emma seemed go just work out a little well. Couldn't be that easy in real life, but hey it's a novel rig... moreht!?! This is my 2nd Sarah Ladd book and I like how it is Christian, but not preachy!
review 2: Make that 4 1/2 stars. Why, oh why, do they not have half stars on Goodreads?!The Headmistress of Rosemere is a compelling Regency that was a good combination of intrigue and romance. I didn't read the first book in this series, so I'm a little behind on some of the characters' backstories, but that being said, as a stand-alone, I didn't have any trouble getting into the story -- except that I listened to this as an audiobook and some of the narration for the men (as read by a woman) was a little hokey.Back to the book . . . the characters are believable. You'll fall in love with little Emma, cheer for the underdog heroine, Patience, and alternately want to smack upside the head and/or throw your arms around William, the hero. Well-written and an engaging read, so much so that I'm planning on buying a paperback copy so I can read it with my eyeballs instead of my ears. And yes, I will pick up the sequel as well, A Lady at Willowgrove Hall, when it comes out this fall. less
