review 1: Not a standout collection for me. I just didn't really connect with the stories or the characters. That being said, there were two stories I thought were better than the others: "She Murdered Mortal He" and "Vuotjärvi." My favorite line of the entire collection actually comes from "The Agency," though: "It was as if love had become scentless, bloodless, it had somehow lost its vitality." (p. 102).
review 2: This is a very quick collection of short stories that are well written and emotional. Favorites include "The Nightlong River" in which a young girl hunts mink around her farm so she can make them into a coat for a sick friend, "She Murdered Mortal He" about a young woman roaming the jungle near the resort where she just had a terrible fight with her boyfri... moreend, and "Butcher's Perfume" about a young girl befriending the school bully. This is a great little book you can knock off in a couple hours. less
