review 1: Alright, to be short and concise about why this deserved a five star:1) Memorable plot-line 2) Real-life problems I could relate to (like overbearing parents wanting to live vicariously through you. yeah, been there)3) Good characters I felt for instead of wanted to hit with a basketball for being stupid4) No melodrama. It headed there but Audrey is a sensible person and I'm glad she thinks before she acts. Most heroines don't. 5) The whole relationship between Zach and Audrey. It was different than what I'm used to. Most of the time, there's always this uneasiness in-between that gets in the way of me enjoying the relationship between the two protagonists but even though they were rivals, everything was upfront with them. There were no coveted intents or secrets that coul... mored potentially harm (belying the past). And they were very affectionate to each other. It was adorable how they adored each other and I guess, that's what love is. You want the other to be happy. You want to be each other's support. And they were so good at it. I admired the heck out of their admiration for each other. This is it. This is love. That bicker-hate-bicker-hate cycle I see so often in stories is not as much of a page-turner as this was. So, congrats, author. You won a fan in me.
review 2: I thought this was a nice read. The characters are ordinary people. They are coworkers, both good at their jobs. Unfortunately, there is a threat of budget cuts and impending layoffs. They tried to present their best foot forward to show that they are important to the company. What I appreciate about this book are the characters. They aren't outlandish. They are just ordinary hard working people trying to lead a good life. My favourite part of this book is the hero. He is just adorable. He has worked his way up in the world. He was born into a difficult environment. His parents were drug addicts. When his father died, his mother went into the deep end. Despite this, he worked hard to establish a good life. He studied and worked hard and developed a taste for finer things in life. He came across as a trust fund baby to the heroine though but he quickly dispelled her of that notion. I also appreciate the heroine being logical. I know I'm making them sound boring but I think it was written well. The plots aren't manufactured by character defects. They weren't stretched out unnecessarily. The story flowed evenly and it was a nice read. Story Brief:Audrey and Zach work together in a project. They aren't the best of friends. Audrey thought Zach was a self-important jaghead. Zach didn't really know Audrey that much except she was beautiful but not friendly to him. He eventually disabuses her of her impression. He reveals his past and she feels awful for judging him. They befriend each other since they are two workaholics who understand one another. However, conflicts arise when it seemed as if Zach took credit for both of their works. They resolve the issue eventually after tempers die down They survive the layoffs. They start a relationship but keep it on the down low. They eventually stopped keeping it a secret. The book ends with the two of them applying for promotion. She gets it because she had more experience despite him having more degrees. Either way, they supported each other. less
