review 1: Twenty Boy Summer is a teen romance book. If you like the Notebook I would recommend this book to you. The main character Anna is very much to her self. Anna has gone through a lot but she always thinking of others feelings before her own. This book has a quick pace once you get about three chapters in. The main conflict in this book is between Anna and herself. On Annas fifteenth birthday her best friends brother, also her life long crush kisses her. Anna and Matt, her best friend Frankie's brother, sneak out every night to see each other. Anna and Matt are hesitant to tell Frankie about there relationship and Matt tells Anna that he will tell Frankie on there upcoming California trip. A few days before there trip the three get in a car accident revealing Matts unknown h... moreeart condition. Matt dies leaving Anna broken hearted and Frankie brother less and unknowing. A year later Frankie and her family go on the same California beach trip this time taking Anna. Frankie comes up with a plan for them to have a great trip, it will be the twenty boy summer! Frankie plans for her and Anna to meet twenty guys in three weeks. Anna still feeling connected to Matt agrees for Frankie's sake. While on their trip they meet about ten guys but two stand out, Sam and Jake. Anna feels like she is cheating on Matt with Sam and want nothing more than to share this with her best friend but she can't without breaking her promise with Matt, not to tell her until Matt got the chance to. Through out the book Anna is confused, she really likes Sam and he likes her too, but she still feels like Matt is with her. All this time Anna has been writing letters to Matt in her diary, and one night at a party Frankie reads them, finding out what went on between her best friend and her brother. Frankie and Anna get into their biggest fight yet. What should Anna say to Frankie? Should she feel bad for liking Sam? I rated this book four out of five because it was great, once I picked the book up it was hard to set it down. Once you were in to the book it had a fast pace causing you to turn page after page trying to find out more. Despite the fast past and good story line I found the book too climatic. There was never a problem that you didn't see coming. Over all this was a great book and I hope you read it.
review 2: Twenty Boy Summer is a realistic fiction novel by Sara Ockler. The book has a pretty steady pace, but I was not quite able to finish it. The style of the book is designed to make you feel what the characters are feeling, which is often sorrow. Anna Reiley is a loyal and trustworthy friend who can't get over her first love, who happens to be her best friend's brother. Anna, Frankie, and Matt have been best friends since forever, but after a tragic accident, Anna and Frankie's world is ripped apart at the death of their third musketeer. Anna is heart broken, especially since Matt and her had just shared their first kiss. Even though he has died, she continues to keep her relationship with Matt a secret from Frankie, afraid it will hurt her. I enjoyed the emotions this book portrayed. I felt as though I could really connect to characters and how they were feeling. Every time one of them talk about how Matt's death had affected their life, I felt the hurt that they were experiencing. When Anna talks about her feelings for Matt it reminds me of crushes and feelings I've had for people in the past. As Anna and Frankie prepare for there vacation across the country to California, Frankie comes up with a game that she hopes will help Anna spark a relationship. Little does she know, Anna is still trying to get over the death of Matt which occurred just over a year ago. The point of Frankie's game is to have a fling with a guy each day of their vacation. This totals to twenty, hence the title of the book, Twenty Boy Summer. As soon as they arrive at Zanzibar, boys immediately start checking out the duo, which greatly pleases Frankie. She is confident that the challenge will go as planned and that Anna will be ready to have a committed relationship when they return home. I give this book eight out of ten because I enjoy the book so far but have not yet finished it. My rating may change when I finish the book. If anything, I believe that my rating will go up because this is my favorite book genre, and I have enjoyed it so far. less
