review 1: I didn't actually read this entire book. I read over half and couldn't take it any longer so I skipped to the end. Eek. I couldn't tolerate either protagonist. I wanted it to get better, but it just didn't happen for me. What bothers me is that I have already purchased the next two books in this series. I wish someone could convince me they would be worth a shot to read. Historical fiction is my favorite genre. This book just went south for me and there was no chance of recovery.Okay, normally I would never review or rate a Christian book with a one star, simply because I think it can be rude and unnecessary. I hate the idea of hurting an author's feelings but every once in a while, the story just goes so bad, I feel an obligation to prevent someone from wasting their time... more. This story just sticks in my craw because the male character, who I think the author wants us to admire, views cold blooded murder on the street, and killing on the battlefield, to be one of the same. I can't take this. I actually find it immoral. The character, Tom, isn't intelligent enough to know the difference, yet he's an engineer and a Christian? No. Just no. This isn't even a practical concept to me. I have to admit, I'm a little surprised Revell let this through. I'm even more surprised at all the 4 and 5 star ratings this book gets. How could anyone not be bothered by this? Especially those who call themselves Christian?
review 2: Absolutely love this book! It's a library copy.I was living in the story right along with Tom and Mellie. Sarah has a beautiful way of painting the picture, both the physical and relational scene. Beautiful use of dual point of view. Didn't know how it would end until it did. I was quite frustrated with Mellie's desire to remain anonymous!Well done. I highly recommend this book to anyone who likes a little WWII history mixed in with their romance. Needless to say (or is it), there is a strong faith element in the book, and it is squeaky clean. Love how both characters, not just one, did lots of personal growing during the story. Thanks for the trip to N. Africa and Sicily! less

This book is also a romance. I found the characters interesting and the conclusion clever.
