review 1: Ok, needs to start. I had a very love-hate-love-hate-hate-love relationship with this book. First off Allie was great in the beginning, but for most of the book she annoyed me. Girl, just tell your crazy parents you don't want to marry the guy they want you too. I know this was the 40's, but arranged marriages were over by then. Also I didn't understand the whole not telling Walt your not engaged and him not telling you he loved Allie. This whole part of the book annoyed and irritated me. Like you could have moved on to more of the story and skipped all that. Overall, I really enjoyed this book and I'll be curious to read the next book.
review 2: A Distant Melody was an o.k. WWII Fiction Novel. I think the difficulty for me is my measuring stick for WWII Ficti
... moreon: Brock and Bodie Thoene's Zion Covenant and Zion Chronicles which I read MANY years ago. Although it was many years ago, the characters in the novels are still memorable and I recall adoring each and every book of these two series. Earlier this year, I read Auschwitz Escape by Joel C. Rosenberg. By far, it is my favorite novel of this year thus far. I think because of prior WWII reads, I have a high bar for WWII Fiction.A Distant Melody was not bad in any way. It just wasn't as good as what I've come to love for the WWII time period. less
