review 1: My Crazy Pet Frog by Scott Gordon is a colorfully illustrated beginning picture book. I received this ebook free from a special on Amazon.com. I have read two other books by Scott Gordon and was very captivated by the illustrations that are done by Julien Tromeur. I have to say this is the best part of these books, definitely brings these books to a whole other level. The illustrations are done with computer graphics and the frog is fixed on a plain white backdrop. This creates an eye catching image on each page of the picture book, with just the text and the frog.Gordon’s books are cute and usually have a great theme, but they short with simple text and phrases. Your child will love the humor and creativity of the frog’s imagination when answering the question “Who ... moreare you?” after the narrator found him swimming in his/ her bathtub. The frog lies to his owner and says he is many different things from a secret agent to a disco dancer among many other things. The theme of this book is that you do not have to lie about who you are to be important. The frog realizes in the end of the story “the most important thing of all: No matter who he pretended to be, or how badly he stumbled, his family always loved him!” I would recommend this book for children age 3-6 years old. The illustrations and the goofy text will keep the young reader interested. It’s such a simple, quick read it will help build the confidence of the beginning reader.
review 2: I chose to read this as a free e-book on my new Kindle Fire. At first I was not impressed and actually laughed about it. I showed it to my husband and he liked it. I put it down and read it the next day and like it better. I didn't love it but it's growing on me. I think the first day I was reading it like it was a children's book meant for my 16 month old son, it is not. It is more of a children's looking book but created for adults. I think that my son would enjoy the pictures however. So, I will continue to read and maybe it will get more stars the more I read it. less
