review 1: First off, this book probably would have made more sense if I had read the six books that came before it. For example it took me several chapters before I realized that the symboits =/= dragons. In the same way there were a dozen references to people and events that I had no clue about. Half the alien species I have no idea what they look like other than perhaps tall. Obviously I was able to get through it without having to read the books before, but it surely would have helped. There were a number of things I liked: Mel’s sense of humor and self-preservation, her grandfather’s friend Harry, the confusion over their (supposedly) male mate, and of course, twins. Cree and Calo quickly became their own personalities. Often with twins in books, you could almost switch them ... morein some scenes and it would make no difference - that didn’t really happen here. Other things just confused me, like her grandfather’s teasing about the twins even as he tries so desperately to keep them apart. The two things seemed like they weren’t compatible. And sometimes the twins actions annoyed me - half-mad they may be, conspiring to kidnap her from the life she has been desperately trying to get back to is not the best decision. Even if she is obviously pining for them. The sex stuff…I don’t usually read such mature books, so I skimmed those parts a little. Writing was a little off here (maybe trying to be more high-end and less porny, maybe with having to deal with three people, not sure). Nothing fabulous, and they always seemed to jump right into it.The book is of good length and material quality (and signed to me, it's always nice to see that little touch). There were a few formatting things that I hope will be fixed, like the epilogue and the blurb about the next book running into each other. Possibly a holdover from being an ebook? It’s also a little obvious to me that whoever did the cover just flipped the image for the twins. Nothing deal-breaker-y.Received the book for free through Goodreads First Reads.
review 2: Double the trouble!Cree and Calo want Mel but they don't realize he is a she! Oh the things they get into! Cree and Calo are twin dragons, with a heavy and oppressive darkness filling them. And Mel has the grief of losing herself, and her loved ones, to deal with.I don't want to go into too much detail, I don't know who will read this and I don't want to spoil the book. I will say however, that I think this is one of the best books SE Smith has written yet. I love all of her books; don't get me wrong, but this one? Yeah, it hits right there… right in the tender spot. But it does it in a great way that just sucks you in and holds you tight.I stayed up all night reading this. It was one of those; "I need to put it down so I can get some sleep… ok after the next page… maybe the next chapter… ohhh I give up! I'll just read it all through then sleep tomorrow night!" And I did too, I'm yawning my head off and can barely see past the yawn-inspired-tears but it was soooooooooooo worth it! less
