review 1: I read this after reading the book Write/Publish/Repeat. I generally like the tone, it's a high concept fun read. The negatives are that the story seems forced to suit the plot. The lady is shown as a tough takes-no-shit woman but turns into a damsel in distress as soon as the bad guy grabs her. She doesn't even utter a word I think. Other plot handwaves were pointed out by other reviews that I read on Amazon, but those didn't bother me that much. I hope the writing style improves as it goes on, if I'm not mistaken this is one of the earliest work from this team. The positives are, that I love Edward, I like the general idea. The whole premise hinges on cliches so it keeps everything vivid in your mind, the town, the people, the main character Clint (yeah, who you picture in... more his place?) Another positive for me is that I read it in one sitting, meaning I can't wait to read the next one.
review 2: This short "episode" starts off the saga of duty-bound gritty marshal, Clint, and his magical unicorn, Edward. This felt like Firefly, as it combines a Western with a fantasy element. But instead of space or sci-fi, this one distinctively uses fantasy, specifically magic. I'm not going to lie, about half the stars come from the ingenuity alone. It does look like something the internet would right (except the internet would include more cats). The writing style is fun, and I was actually reading to find out what comes next by the end, so I will definitely be reading the second one. They're short, and this one took place all within a few hours, so it feels like a TV episode. Several lines made me laugh out loud, so they get points for that. Overall, fun writing style, fun characters (that I hope will be fleshed out more), intriguing world and concept and leaves you with the hope that each volume gets better! Even the writers said so. less
