Star Wars: The Old Republic (Chronological Order)
review 1: Fatal Attraction is my only venture into the Old Republic section of the Star Wars Expanded Universe. It was a quick, exciting read but not a memorable one. Sean Williams had originally impressed me with his writing style (not something I can say about all the writers the EU utilizes) so, when I saw what I thought was a different book by this author, I grabbed it. Alas, it was the same one - Fatal Attraction. (This lapse is what I refer to when I said it was not a memorable read.) However, the plot did come quickly back once I opened the book. This review is based on what I remember from three years ago. The Hutts are holding an auction and a disparate group of characters from across the galaxy descend on the planet, not to bid but to steal. Williams writes great action s... morecenes and the different characters’ story lines are deftly intertwined. The cast includes familiar characters in different forms - Jedis, Siths, Hutts. They have different names but you feel like you have met them before. (Luke, Han, Jabba) The only one I found imaginatively different was the lone Mandalorian, Dao Stryver, highly intelligent and a step ahead of everyone else but no faux Boba Fett. This is the one I ended up rooting for and the twist with this character at the end caught me by surprise. All in all, a good addition to the SWEU but not a great one.
review 2: Rating 4.7/5Thought this book was great. Slow pace in the beginning aside, the entire mystery surrounding the plot kept me very intrigued particularly with the character of Dao Stryver.Being an avid Star Wars can it actually saddens me that some of these characters simply won't be brought up in the universe again, but this gives credit to the author's ability to really build great character development and pathos. Now were the events in the novel important to the Star Wars universe ? I don't really think so, however this remains a fantastic and griping story set in my favorite fictional world of all time. less

Dragged at the beginning but ramped up towards the end. Actual rating should be 3 1/2 stars.
