Star Wars: The Old Republic (Chronological Order)
review 1: I haven't read many Old Republic books yet, and in part because the one or two I've tried before haven't caught my interest nearly as much as the New Republic books. Perhaps it's because I'm not starting with certain characters to identify with, the fact that they focus more on Sith or rather faceless commandos who tend to blend one into another or are based off of video games... but overall, I find them less compelling. I do know that a lot of people enjoy the stories around the Sith Empire, so something for everyone, right? That said, there was some interesting technology in this book with all of the droids. And, once I rather uncertainly pushed myself past the first hundred pages or so my interested in the plot picked up a little more and by over halfway through I was c... moreommitted to at least see the story out with vague interest... hence the 3 stars. It did certainly build to a definite climax where the entire galaxy seems poised for war... and remains poised there. Still, I found most of the characters rather two-dimensional and stereotypical at best, only rising slightly above this at times. Jet Nebula was the only one who was truly interesting.... although when you're dealing with a personality given to you with pithy soundbites from a game (so I understand?), I guess there's only so much you can do? Not sure when I'll venture into Old Republic territory again, but for starting from a game I thought the author did a decent job of putting a story from a very different media into words.
review 2: Not my favorite Star Wars book by far. I found myself wanting to skip pages and just get to the end of this book and that's disappointing. I haven't played the game so perhaps that is why the book bored me but even as a stand alone novel it didn't feel like a Star Wars book to me. I found myself getting confused with all the different characters. There was too man in my opinion and a others have said in their reviews the book is too long. less

all in all it was an enjoyable read but wasn't the best that it could be.

Best of the Old Republic series so far, but I found the end confusing.
crackpot
Definitely one of the better Star Wars novels I've read.
