review 1: Somewhere in my American-centric brain I think I expected this book to have a "Persepolis" feel, but it really didn't. It was certainly a glimpse into a similar-but-different world than my own and I liked that.My biggest disappointment with this book is that all the characters sound the same. Ms. Boianjiu shows that they all have very different personalities but they all seem to have the same voice.

Mă aşteptam la un fir narativ logic, nu o amestecătură de mumbo jumbo postmodernist care să asigure lauda unui cerc restrâns de critici literari cu beţe în fund. Subiectul a fost raw, Shani putea să distrugă cititorul, să-l arunce în aer, să-l demoleze.
