review 1: Ever since this book debuted last year, I have been wanting to find the time to read it! Aside from being attracted to the beautiful cover, I love that our heroine is an air elemental and her power comes from the wind itself. The premise is certainly an intriguing one and I was a goner by the time I read the words 'forbidden romance'. Let the Sky Fall has it all- action, adventure, romance, betrayal- and will leave you mesmerized by the sylph way of life and just what it means to be one of their kind. The book alternates between Vane and Audra's point of views and the two couldn't be more different. As a guardian, Audra has one task: protect Vane Weston at all costs. She is bound by the Gale Force's rules and regulations and she does quite the job of playing the role of the... more obedient soldier she has been trained to be. She doesn't have the luxury of letting go and being free to do what she wants. Vane, on the other hand, has no idea that he is even in need of protecting. All he wants to do is live his life and be a normal teenage boy who for once doesn't somehow mess up his first kiss with a girl. He has no idea of the dangers that await him, especially if his location is found by a power hungry leader who caused the destruction of his parents so many years ago. After being forced to intervene on Vane's behalf and expose his location, Audra must now fight against the clock, as she only has mere days to awaken Vane to his true nature and train him to rise up and be the one to defeat the leader of the Stormers that killed his family. This is no easy task, especially with Vane being so tied to earthly things. He isn't used to the stringent lifestyle Audra has lived. His character definitely grated on my nerves a bit with his false arrogance and rebellious attitude, but that is what made him that much more believable. He doesn't just jump into his role and become this self-assured, strong hero who is willing to do whatever it takes. It takes an incredible amount of patience on Audra's part, as well as some vulnerability, to make him see how dire the circumstances have become.Vane's feelings for Audra are a big part of his acceptance and willingness to step up and try for the sake of all their lives. Having dreamt about her constantly, he cares for her and doesn't want anything to happen to her. A relationship between the two of them is anything but simple. Audra knows it cannot be and therefore won't let herself be fooled into thinking they ever could, no matter how persistent Vane can be. She does have feelings for him, but her feelings of guilt far outweigh the others, as she is harboring a pretty heavy secret that would destroy Vane if he knew what actually happened all those years ago at the time of his parents' death. I enjoyed watching Vane break down Audra's defenses because they feel a connection to one another that would be wrong to ignore!Overall, this book definitely did not disappoint. It took me a little bit to really immerse myself in this one, but once I did, I could NOT stop reading. Not to mention, I love how easy it reads! There were a few parts that were lengthy in explanations of the how the winds worked, but they were necessary to understanding the world Messenger was creating and just how important each type of wind was. I cannot wait for book two, especially after everything that unfolded at the end of this one!
review 2: 3.5/5 StarsThis was a weird read for me. I really struggled to get into. Granted once I did, I could not put it down and read the last 200 pages in one sitting. The basic plot is that Audra and Vane are thrown together after Raiden and his Stormers learn where Vane has been hiding for the last 10 years. And it is Audra’s duty to protect Vane. This book is about Vane coming into his windwalking powers, specifically those of being a sylph. The beginning of this book is very obscure in how you come to understand the lore behind sylph, for the most part you learn through what Vane is learning, but you also learn that there is more going on then what Audra is telling Vane. At times that was frustrating for me, but I understand why Shannon Messenger needed to keep us in the dark and leave us guessing. After about 100 pages of this book, it became much more interesting and it began to pull me into the story of Vane and Audra. However, the beginning was quite slow and unappealing at times. The relationship between Audra and Vane was strange. Vane has been helplessly in love with Audra ever since he was 7 and she “saved” him. He has been dreaming about her for years. But as they train together that is definitely when their relationship starts developing further. While they grow closer, it becomes more apparent that Audra is keeping things from Vane in the hopes of keeping him motivated with respect to his training. After finishing the book and digesting it, the beginning was lacking. But I’m glad I stuck with it (not that there was ever really a doubt, I finish almost every book I start). Vane and Audra are special and have both gone through very traumatic childhoods. I really liked the progression of their relationship in this book. The rest of this trilogy will be interesting to see what Audra and Vane do next. less

Too many unnecessary paragraphs, but the plot would've have been good if developed a little more.
