review 1: Second book syndrome - check. In other words, if the characters got together in the first book, we must separate them somehow in the second in order to bring them back together in the third. So, Audra isn't here in this book. By choice. Yeah, that makes sense. They are bonded. This supposedly most powerful and meaningful magnetic bond that makes them part of each other. And, they had previously spent every day of their lives together (although unknown to him) since childhood. But, now, yes NOW, she decides it's time for her to take a break and disappear.Perfect timing for the kingdom guys to introduce Vane to the hottie that he was meant to marry. Oh, and by the way, she HAS to dress in skimpy dresses to store the wind in her body. Conveniently, she can help him with his ni... moreghtmares too, as long as she sleeps in his bed. (We were on a break!)The best part of this book is Vane's sarcastic sense of humor. Although, I was ready for him to step up and start caring about his people more than Audra after a bit, I understood that all of this was thrown at him very quickly and he needed time to adjust.I didn't like Audra as much in this one. I'm on Vane's mother's side. She is a little too bitchy for my taste. Plus, I did start to see the point that she should have trained Vane a lot sooner, been more careful not to leave that trace, and definitely should not have had a romance with him. I understand why she did, but she should have had herself reassigned if she couldn't handle it.This book, like the last, moved slowly. Not enough action, too much brooding and arguing. But, maybe the third one will bring it on home.
review 2: so...book two. we're no longer discovering a whole new world; instead, we're dealing with growing pains as vane comes into his own and audra figures out her place in the gale world. we're introduced officially to raiden, to solana, to gus, and to os (captain of the gale force), and to some new sylph concepts.stupid book twos. i tend to have problems with their inability to hold up on their own and the inner turmoil they cause with their lack of direction and cliffhangers. just because this is the second book in a trilogy doesn't mean that this book shouldn't be able to be a kickass stand-alone book. while there's the requisite drama and action and betrayal and a little twist, this unfortunately did not feel like a complete story (not to me at least). things happened. sad things happened. ish hit the fan. and then my heart got torn out. and now there's that stupid glimmer of hope, but also sadness that things had to happen this way.as i was reading this, i realized that my attention was only hooked when things were about vane & audra. the rest sadly paled in comparison and made me blind to the depth of the gales' situation. and at the beginning, when audra was on the run/in the cave with aston, i was flat out bored. yeesh. BUT once vane and audra are in the same breathing space, well, things are electric and dramatic and awkward (here's looking at you, solana).i still love me some vane and his real-teenage-boy-ness. and i have some beef with audra at the moment, but hopefully that'll be cleared up soon enough. i didn't love this, but i'll definitely read the final installment. less

I loved the excitement. And in some twisted way I really wanted Audra to become evil.
