review 1: I really enjoyed this first installment of the Chevalier's series. I was immediately taken in by this couple and her girlfriends and his handsome, fine, delicious cousins. It was a quick read but very intriguing. I do recommend this and the others in the series w/the exception of Solange's book. I personally didn't feel that she deserved a story and to be quite honest the thought of that story line creeps me out.
review 2: This book is kind of hard for me to rate because I thought it was "okay" on one hand and then on the other hand as I continued to read it I kept thinking "How did this get published?" It started out pretty good - I really liked the focus being on a Creole family and the relationship between the lighter-skinned mother and her darker-skinned da... moreughter. I was even okay with it when the daughter decided to be a stripper as a way to "rebel", I guess. And when Thierry recognized her and got angry instead of turned on - I was like - Okay now, this might be interesting.And then I was through.First of all, Thierry's habit of calling Angelique "sugar" every other sentence annoyed the heck out of me! Sugar? Really? Is that even sexy anymore? Was it ever?!And the sex scenes...uuuggh! Every time Thierry found his release it was the most intense release ever! Okay, so what about the fifty-eleven times he released before?And then the grammatical errors were too numerous to ignore. Really.The writing was a bit amateurish to me at times and at other times it was downright ridiculous. I kid you not.Example: It stood out proud, red, and furious with pearly drops of fluid escaping from its one eye.*blank stareOh! Oh! And let's not overlook Angelique "cooing" while in the throes of love-making.Yeah, so this didn't really do it for me. At least not enough for me to want to read any other books in this series. less
