review 1: This is the 5th book in Sheila Connolly's Orchard Mystery series. Meg and Bree are finished with the apple harvest, and can have some down time before getting ready for the next year's season. Only strange little acts of vandalism begin happening. At the same time Meg finds a 200 year old embroidered sampler in the back of a closet. She cannot figure out why it is in her house because the sampler was done by someone not related to the Warren family who built the house and whose ancestors have lived in it for 200 years. In doing the genealogy of the sampler's stitcher she learns how she connects to the Warren family, and she also learns of a genetic disease that is still present today in descendants. The author raises awareness about Battan's Disease, a genetic disease that ... morealways ends up with affected children dying. I have cared for several children with this, it is a devastating disease.
review 2: So far in the series this one was my favorite. I think that the author is warming up and if you read all the books at once, you'll see what I'm saying.I like this one better because it is better written, the plot is good and although it is a little obvious about the murderer, it still manages to grab you, and because it isn't directly connected to Meg. It is really a cozy mystery, very soft and to read near the fireplace.Still, it annoys me the relationship between Meg and Seth, and Meg and Bree. It really annoys me that Meg can be a little submissive and permissive; and, I know that this is not a romance novel but the relationships between Meg and Seth is not even warm...how can they be in love? less

Enjoyable cozy mystery--lots of genealogy research to discover roots of 200 year old sampler.

This mystery was actually really kind of creepy and ethereal, but really well done.

Anyone that can make a failing furnace coupled with a power outage is talented.
