review 1: like the exploration of history for the Massachusetts vicinity and the description of the various types of apples, but the mystery proved to be mushy. The ending was bland and not what was expected. I felt out of the loop since I had not read the first book of the series set in a small, picturesque town of Massachusetts. The characters are so-so. Meg's friend, Lauren, seems not too friendly. I will probably read the rest of the series because I enjoy reading of different areas and learning more about apples.
review 2: I can certainly say that this book is where the author is beginning to hit her stride as far as the characters developing. I do find that it doesn't draw me in as much as other series that I have read in the past. The stories are well-writte
... moren, just maybe I would like to feel that a bit more humor was injected into them. Sometimes it is hard to put one's finger on what is lacking and for me I think it is that the characters are though better developed are still uptight and maybe that would be okay if they were a secondary character. I think that Sheila Connolly is a good writer, maybe this series is just not my cup of tea. Although, I am going to read the next one as this one leaves a cliff-hanger ending. Which was welcome! Maybe it will turn out to be a series that I enjoy after all. As I say the writing is solid. less

Was disappointed in the end. Would've liked to have seen that character continue on in her books.

It was an enjoyable light murder mystery, but took me a while to really get into it.
