review 1: Meg Corey, out of a job and with no real home, has come to the town of Granford, Massachusetts to start renovations on an old home that her mother inherited from distant relatives. She intends to fix up the home and sell it quickly but immediately things don't go her way. The septic system backs up and there are a lot of repairs that need done. Then an old flame shows up and he is in charge of a project to bring businesses into town. Meg finds out that part of the project will mean that she will lose 15 acres of orchard that are part of the inheritance. When the old flame is found floating in Meg's new septic tank, she is the main suspect according to the state police officer in charge of the case. Meg has to look into the past and find a way to prove her innocence b... moreefore she ends up in jail. This was a fun book and the characters are very well written. The mystery isn't to deep but the series has potential. I enjoyed it very much.
review 2: Can't quite figure out why this book was only 3 stars. I liked the premise - Meg Corey is downsized from her job in Boston and decides to go fix up an old house her mother owns while she ponders her next move. I guess I didn't really "buy" her as a high-powered, MBA, Boston banker. However, I liked her as a clueless homeowner, in way over her head with the magnitude of fixing up an old house. This is the first in a series, and I liked it enough to look for subsequent titles. less

I couldn't make it through four chapters, let alone the whole book. It was just so dull.
