Magnificent Devices
review 1: I was a little disappointed in the last two books of this series. First the author jumped in with scenes from a new character's viewpoint. This is somewhat distracting from the main line of the story. Also further relationship triangles gum up the romance. Both book 3 Magnificent Devices and book 4 Brilliant Devices ended too abruptly and without a real sense of closure. She needed a reunion scene in 3 and a farewell scene in 4. Also the sudden conclusions of each book felt forced as far as the action was concerned and left loose ends. From both a relationship and intrigue standpoint I felt shortchanged. I still gave both books 4 stars because they were full of interesting characters involved in fast-paced adventures in facscinating settings. Clean up the endings... more and these would be 5 star fabulous. Finally, for those who care this whole series was completely clean. I feel it is not inappropriate for middle schoolers although there are a few deaths.
review 2: The scope of book #4 was way too ambitious. This easily could have turned into three more books just to explore all the plot lines that opened up. Too many things were left unresolved and if I didn't care for the longevity of my iPad, I would have thrown it against the wall at the end. If there wasn't enough romantic tension in book three, book four seemed to almost be a black hole of romantic tension. It was hard to tell if Clare and Malvern even cared for each other. less
