review 1: First, I didn't like that they resolved the issues that Book #4 ended on by simply allowing a large chunk of time to have passed (5ish years or so) prior to the beginning of this book. I kind of felt that was cheating us out of the end of that particular story. Even now, I don't really know what happened, just that all turned out well.Otherwise, this book was just as enjoyable as the others - it focuses on the Mopsies instead of the Lady Claire (Lizzie in particular) but remained true to the tone set by the other stories. I worried the change of focus might turn me off, as I really enjoyed following the Lady and her exploits, but there is enough of the Lady present that I felt the cast was complete and the new focus allowed the story to grow beyond just the one person. It ... morewas nice to learn more about other members of the "flock" as well.A fun read, I look forward to the next installment.
review 2: As much as I liked the first two instalments in this series, the other books just don’t seem to live up to my expectations and they are not as exciting as the first instalments were. I think Adina got lost somewhere along the way with too many subplots (some of them quite uninteresting) that are never resolved. The only thing that has kept me reading so far is character development, which Adina does quite well. Still, I can’t say I liked what she did with Lord James, it felt like an unimaginative easy way out.Many readers were apparently put off by the fact that Lady of Resources takes place about five years after Brilliant Devices ended. The idea in itself doesn’t bother me. What does annoy me is that by using this trick Adina once again leaves many issues unresolved. A few years have gone by and everything has turned out well or so it seems. Not very exciting I must say. This wasn’t a bad read and I quite enjoyed it but I am not sure I will read the next instalment in the series. I think I am done hoping the next book will be as good as the first ones were so I will probably leave it at that. less
