review 1: Wanting to avoid a forced marriage to Lord James Selwyn, Lady Claire needs to make herself scarce until she turns 18. Joining the Earl of Dunsmuir and his wife on an airship to America she seems to be in the clear, but when sky pirates take over their ship things take a turn for the worse. Before long Lady Claire finds herself battling pirates, evil railway men, Texas rangers and Lord Selwyn who is also in America. Luckily she has her band of orphaned street urchins with her to lend a hand. This book, this whole series, isn't particularly taxing but for what it is it's completely addictive. It's light and fluffy entertainment that is entertaining from start to finish. I love these characters, I love this series.
review 2: This book takes place in the Ame
... morericas, as they are referred to in the book. The nearest big city is Santa Fe, so we're talking the southwest. The reason for Claire's trip across the Atlantic is to put distance between herself and Lord James, who is determined to marry her before her eighteenth birthday, despite her open aversion to him (I mentioned in my review of the last book that he was a jackass; he proves himself to be even more so this time around). Unfortunately, instead of landing in the Canadas, the airship is skyjacked by pirates. Claire and her companions are to be ransomed (the owners of the airship are extremely wealthy). Since her family has no money, guess who steps up to pay her ransom? Yep, Lord Jackass. Claire has no intention of waiting around for him and manages to escape the pirates, but wandering around in the desert when you have no idea of where you are or knowledge of the terrain is risky business. It's even riskier when your travelling companions are two ten-year old girls and a hen in a hatbox.Never a dull moment here. less

Still hating Lord Selwyn, could use a bit more romantic tension between Claire and Malvern.
