review 1: The Child of Dandelions book by Shenaaz Nanji was a compelling story. I was expecting something gripping, and I wasn’t disappointed. The story’s plot was inviting and intriguing. You follow Sabine, a fifteen-year-old Indian girl who has lived her whole life in Uganda, and her Indian family through President Idi Amin’s 90-day expulsion of all the Indians in Uganda. The book is rich with cultural clashes, African and Indian, friendship and betrayal, horror and history, hope and despair. Set in 1972, modern day media and life bangs together with the traditions and ways of life in Africa’s Pearl. I couldn’t have imagined the mixed feelings I’d have when I read this book. Part of you wants Sabine’s whole family to stick it out and defy the injustice, and part of yo... moreur wants to cheer on the Africans who want their land back for themselves.I was appalled and saddened when I read of Sabine and Zena’s friendship break up. It was so sad. Anger and hurt reigned, and bitterness began to take root. I was so glad when they finally meet again and all through the 90-day time or terror for Sabine and her family, Zena has remained faithful to her young friend. Friendship bracelets can mean a lot.It is a compelling story and the plot is wonderful. The author is brilliant in her descriptions and rich. The setting was beautiful; I could almost see what Sabine was seeing as she drove along the pot-holed road, and the expressions on every characters’ face. She is the kind of writer who draws you in and keeps you there, making you sad when the story end
review 2: I thought this book was really good! It had allot of interesting parts. I don't really have a favorite part of the book because there isn't allot of 'big' parts in the book! That's part of the reason i don't like the book! Another part of the book i don't like is how gory they make it sound: they describe how a goat gets shot and all the blood is everywhere! It disturbs me!!!! The story is basically on a Indian family living in Uganda but the government of Uganda want all the Indians out of Uganda. So Sabine (the main character) and her family have to leave. They have only 100 days to get out of Uganda before every body gets shot when they r seen. Will Sabine and her family leave Uganda or figure out a way to stay? READ THE BOOK! lol less
