review 1: This was my first reading of Sherman Alexie. It was also the first book of short stories I've read in quite some time. I wasn't expecting a whole lot going into this book, and given it's thickness, wasn't even sure I'd get through the whole thing. But I was pleasantly surprised to find myself completely enjoying each story Alexie included in this collection. As a whole, the stories worked well together too - letting me see the main themes and situations Alexie gravitates towards. Overall, a very good book that is well worth spending time with.
review 2: This is a collection of new and old stories. I read a number of these stories before, including a few that appeared in Toughest Indian in the World. My original goal was to read the ones I hadn't read and
... more skip the ones I had but he is such an talented story teller that I read the whole thing and didn't skip a page. Sherman Alexie is amazingly fantastic, he can write a story, a paragraph, even a sentence, that will make you laugh, cry, get angry, depressed, feel pride and guilt and shame and a whole bunch of other emotions and make you happy all at the same time. If you haven't read him, he is too good to pass up and you don't want to go to your grave having missed the experience. less

Many stories about Spokane Indians from around Seattle, like the author himself.

Great collection. There are some dark spaces in there, so I had to abandon.
