review 1: I love Sherry Thomas. I recognise that some of her books are better than others but in the world of historical romance there aren't many authors writing better stuff. Not Quite A husband is probably my favourite. I adore Bryony and Leo and the effect they have on one another. The chemistry is hot and the sex is hotter. It gets a bad rep because of the sleep sex stuff and one of the earliest sex scenes in which consent has a limited/no role. My feminist brain battles with those issues, but I've decided Not To Care. I still love it. Most of the book sees Bryony and Leo travelling through India and it's extraordinarily well written. You can feel the heat, the dust, the danger - all of it. It's very, very, very good. I have re-read it and I don't do much re-rea... moreding.
review 2: Another 'meh' book. I really need Lisa Kleypas or Julia Quinn to finish something pronto. Otherwise? I'll go bananas. Although Sherry Thomas is a good author I was rather disappointed with the heroine. I was told she was strong and a doctor during a time period where women simply did not study anything at all. Then, I find a very scared and cowardly female who eventually becomes something more, but it's like if you'd been told that the cracker had nutella and suddenly you take a bite and it turns to be marmalite. Get me here? less
