review 1: So, I'm really not sure what to think of this. This first volume did not do enough to establish the characters before they started doing weird ass shit so I'm not sure how I feel about them. Maybe because I haven't read poetry by Boudelaire I won't 'get' it. I intend to give the next volume a try and reserve my judgement on the series until then... but I won't be shocked if I decide this isn't my thing.
review 2: Many people turn a blind eye when seeing this manga, due to the unpopularity of its anime adaptation. However, this manga has one of the most stimulating dark, psychological plots I've read in a long time. It's about Kasuga Takao, who loves to read, especially Baudelaire's famous "Flowers of Evil". His "muse" so to speak, is a girl named Saeki at hi... mores school, whom he admires from afar. However, one day he is left alone in the classroom, and in the heat of the moment he ends up stealing Saeki's gym clothes. Unfortunately for Kasuga, though, someone saw: Nakamura Sawa, the scary class weirdo.Overcome with shame and guilt from his sin, he is afraid Sawa will tell. Instead of revealing it was him, however, she recognizes his "kindred deviant spirit and uses her knowledge to take control of his life." Though the plot sounds quite stupid just reading it, it gets very dark, deep, and even darker than that probably, but only if you're truly invested in reading it. You will begin to question yourself and how you may relate to Kasuga and Sawa: two deviants trapped in a dull prison of a town. Are you a deviant yourself? less
