review 1: Fun book to read while on the beach.Amber Fox was a police officer but now is an insurance investigator working for her ex-fiance. She's working on a case that she needs to solve before the police do because the police officer in charge is Janice Skipper, the woman she "accidentally" shot which caused her to be kicked off the police force. The case? Where is Umberto Fandango, the fashion designer? Is he dead or alive? Does he have connections to the mob?Amber is confused about love. Is she in love with her current boyfriend, Romeo, or is she still in lave with Brad, her ex-fiance. Trying to solve the Fandango case and her love mess at the same time is causing angst for Amber. And, she almost gets killed a couple of times.A good read.

... moree Kindle book from Amazon, I can't really complain. But this book while entertaining was also really irritating and could have been so much better with a little editing. Like other reviewers, I found the Americanisms annoying - "Apartment" instead of flat, and her father commenting on "candies and cookies" instead of sweets and biscuits. There were also glaring clunking plot devices - the way Janice spoke to her in the police station about the shooting was incredibly contrived and unbelievable. I also found the goons to be cartoonish in their behaviour which epitomised what I felt was wrong with the book - I would have preferred it more if the silly comedic parts were confined to the other parts of her life - murder and kidnapping etc doesn't fit well with slapstick to my mind. There could have been genuine tension in those aspects. Not a very satisfying read really all in all. less
