review 1: Usually these kind of books are right up my street. I’m a big fan of Peter James but I also like the more sort ‘ex-soldier turned crime fighting hero’ kind of books too, the sort Stephen Leather writes. So this should have been up my alley but I just wasn’t feeling it. I found it easy to read and the plot carried me along but there was just something missing. I’m not sure whether it’s because I have not read Siege, (even though it’s on my shelf to read. I didn’t realise it was the prequel to this until it was too late) but I just found the characters pretty one dimensional. It wasn’t bad by any means but it just wasn’t of the standard I expect from him.
review 2: Very current topic - terrorist attacks, immigrants & dodgy coppers. I liked the
... more constant switch between 1st & 3rd person narrative, helped to define characters and provide a different perspective on the story. None of the characters were particularly deep, but all were believable, if a little dull. All the plot threads came together well at the end, although, for me, the bad guys weren't bad enough. The plot was all too plausible, and it needed more escapism and adventure. less

I never really got into it. It was an OK read, but not gripping.

a very fast paced read...OK, but a bit predictable I felt.
