review 1: I was looking for a scary ghost story and that was exactly what I got. I wish I could have given this a better rating, because I was in love with this book and then came several f-words and a couple of "steamy" scenes that were a little too descriptive for me. I skipped over these because I really wanted to finish the book. I was excited to have some romance thrown in with a good ghost story, but this book almost got a little too romance-novel bodice-ripping for me. Too bad.
review 2: This was a historical fiction ghost story. I have never really read anything like this. The ghost was completely real in this novel. There was also a little bit of romance sprinkled in. Sarah Piper is living by herself in post World War 1 London. She works for a temp agenc... morey. One day Alistair Gellis has a unique assignment for her. He wants her to be his assistant on a ghost hunting expedition. Alistair needs her because the ghost will only tolerate females. While on this assignment, Allistair's normal assistant Matthew Ryder joins them. During the novel, Sarah confronts not only the ghost (Maddy Clare) but must learn who attacked and almost killed Maddy. If Sarah doesn't solve this mystery those she loves will be in danger. I really enjoyed this novel and look forward to reading the second book in this series. less
