review 1: Awesome! This book was not only action packed & exhilarating, it was enchanting. The writing was beautiful and extremely descriptive; I felt like I was right there, fighting for the fate of the world. Elise & James are a bonded pair (think Parabatai à la Mortal Instruments) fighting evil. Elise is the badass to James' good guy, though James is still a kickass witch. If you liked the Mortal Instruments series (without the teenage love story angle) you'll enjoy this.
review 2: The end of the book left much to be desired. The beginning when Elise was found in Russia was good. I was interested to learn more about what happened. However... that was it. No further explanations or anything. It was disappointing. It was a struggle to get through the last third of the ... morebook because everything started getting dull. It was full of blood, swords swinging, claws raking... but it was boring and tedious. At this point I don't plan on reading the next book. The ending does give a slight glimmer of hope at the next book having more to do with Elise's past. less
