review 1: I like this series, love Reine's Rylie Gresham character. But The Caine Chronicles is a soap opera with werewolves, and like in her first "Seasons of the Moon" series Reine leaves no cliché untouched, only this time, because of the shorter length of each instalment, they come at you that much faster. If you consider yourself a fan of TV-Tropes, or generally enjoy the hilarity of a good soap, then this is the perfect read for you. We've got the surprise relatives, we've got "I'm in love with my brother's fiancée", we've got several returns from the dead, we've got... well, whatever you can think of, I'm pretty sure Reine got it covered in The Cain Chronicles - all it lacks is Bobby under the shower, but hey there's still Darkmoon, right? The writing is not always up there ... moreand she developed a like for using "off of" which can get a little irritating at times (in the third part Blood Moon Harvest you see that one used on every second page or so). Favourite sentence:"She was a tall, elegant woman with strawberry-blond hair that had never been very friendly, although she managed a small smile for Rylie."So, Stephanie has unfriendly hair?
review 2: I gave this 4 stars for 2 reasons, one because it consists of four books or novellas that had been published already and it does not contain book five which may wrap up this series.Rylie is the female alpha of the werewolf pack and working to get them settled into a new home where hopefully they will be safe. Seth, the boy she loves is in school and Able, his brother is with her and is the quasi co-alpha. Rylie has mixed feelings about Abel and goes looking for Seth who has left school and is looking for someone or something. After finding Seth, she and Seth are taken prisoner by Eleanor, Seth and Abel's mother who Rylie though she had already killed and find a step-brother Cain who seems determined to kill all the werewolves. A added problem is Rylie thinks she is pregnant and while Seth is the only one she is sure she has had sex with, she is not sure if anything happened while she and Abel were in their wolf forms. While the story was good with some plot twists, it was a bit jerky and would have been better with book five included but still a good read with an interesting cliff hanger at the end of book 4. less
