review 1: This novel set in France before and during the Allied Invasion at Normandy focuses on a young woman turned resistance fighter by events she experienced, starting with her brother's death in the blitzkrieg attacks. She becomes a killing machine, focusing on Gestapo and SS officers. I really liked how the author tied in what amounts to a concise history of the war in Western Europe. I was less impressed by the huge number of coincidences that tied the story together, but perhaps that device was necessary to tie the story together. Either way, this story needs to be told, and if glossy fiction I'd the best way to reach younger generations who often read no traditional history books, so be it. My rating: ☆ ☆ ☆ ☆
review 2: I wasn't sure I was going to li
... moreke this book in the beginning. However, after the first few pages, I couldn't put it down!! If you like Historical Fiction, and stories with strong female heroines, you may just enjoy this book. The story takes place during WWII with some tales of a horrific nature dealing with the actions of Hitler's SS officers in France. That is just a warning. Despite that fact, it was well worth the read. less
