review 1: This is another ball hit out of the park for author Stacey Marie Brown. Just when I wondered how she would improve on the first book in this series, she sucked me into an whole new adventure that was even better than the first! Ember is trying to learn to use her knew skills but has constant threats that always seem to be around her. Her attraction to Eli is like a forbidden love that I just couldn't get enough of. We get to meet new characters to love and hate and there are a few twists that I didn't see coming! I can't imagine how, but I just know the next book is going to be even better than the first two! I just cannot wait to see what she has in store!!!
review 2: Fire in the Darkness has a gorgeous cover which shows not only Ember's dual identity in her e
... moreyes but her fiery talent and nature. The story begins a month after the events of Darkness of Light and Ember is in Seattle trying to hide from the Queen's soldiers and Eli. We have no time to settle before the action begins and Ember is again fighting for her life - and saved by a certain individual. After Ember experiences another loss she wakes in unfamiliar surroundings, in the house of Lars. To save Mark and her friends she makes a deal with him, without realising the impact of this upon her life. It is here that we meet a new set of characters which allow us to see more of the paranormal world of which Ember is now a part. No one who works for Lars fits the stereotypes of their species, which is refreshing for the reader.Again the story is given to us relentlessly and we absorb it as Ember is taught her history, learns to control her powers and increases her fighting skills - until she is found. As the story progresses we witness a change in Ember, not only her powers, but emotionally and sexually. As she grows in strength so do her number of love interests; sexy but flawed Eli, yummy and experienced Nic and dreamy but untrustworthy Torin. Ember's first sexual experiences are intense, passionate and animalistic, but like everything else in her life thus far, they end with information which destroys her, resulting in her making a very rash decision. The later events in the story are emotional and exciting and I knew there was no way I could put the book down until I had finished. However, nothing prepared me for the climax and another sleepless night began for me as I started Dwellers of Darkness! less
