Drone Vampire Chronicles
review 1: It wasn't bad. Kind of deus ex machina-y, but still, not bad. I hesitate to label it consummate pulp because there is a LOT of underlying tension and there seems to be a subtle but persistent note of social commentary somewhere in there which, unlike with pure consummate pulp, is actually not ignored. It's very much important and I think what makes this series different from your run-of-the-mill romance is the plot is an integral part of the series, which is why each installment isn't the typical one-couple-per thing. The couples' stories overlap, there are "romance seeds," two-book arcs, several-book arcs, etc.The ending kind of extrapolated quite a bit, I think, which left me a bit nonplussed; where exactly did we end up and how the hell did we get here?Still, the series... more is interesting in that it's actually quite thought-provoking if you sit and ponder certain things that were thrown out almost casually, but not really.
review 2: I am a little bit torn about following the series because I see that the series has all m/f, m/m, or m/m/f theme -- and I'm SO NOT into the ménage. I decided to go with #5 because from the summary, it is a m/m story -- between a vampire named Zeke and a warlock named Ethan. When I started, the story jumped straight into a scene of Ethan being on captive and he remembered scenes with Zeke, I was like, "huh"? Are they doing flashback? Then I realize that it seems in this series, the story immediately takes off after what happens in the previous book. So it's a continuation -- and that's another reason that I contemplate to continue, since again, I don't want to read about the book that involves m/m/fBut I decided to give it ago, and it was actually a charming story. I got bits and pieces of information about the world of Drone Vampires and the people involved. The story here doesn't seem to have a conclusion because it will continue in the next book. Even so, I enjoyed the story very much and I thought Ethan was loveable. To get full knowledge, one probably must read all books in the series. However, I will only pick the ones with m/m theme, even if that means I will miss out few plots. But it's better than go through the idea of threesome. Now I will back track a bit to book #2 and #4 before continuing to book #6 less
