review 1: dear people who like thrillers and such but DON'T like that whole urban fantasy genre,this series is an excellent exception to make. all of the former wrapped up in the latter done well. this isn't all fairy court or vampire empire kind of stuff. its darker and uglier than that. and so is our protagonist. which is super hot.sincerely,gert.P.S. if that's not enough: there's lots of action, and fightin' and killin'. and most of its pretty gross.
review 2: Poor Eric. Between being played by the gods and constantly being beaten up, he can't help stumbling into more trouble just as he is stumbling out of trouble. I feel his pain. After having lost so much in Dead Things, I was comforted to see him working with a Bruja who doesn't judge him, is a worthy ally, and ... moreadds an interesting depth to the magical community. The action is intense and nonstop, and tough choices often have violent, ugly endings. As with all great urban fantasy, it is Eric's willingness to persevere and his ability to still care that keeps me, as a reader, coming back. less
