review 1: I loved this book. Quite often books with an occult element are boring and too elaborate to understand. This book is all about Jack finding out he's going to hell via several different sources. He doesn't believe it, but strange things keep happening. It's smartly written, with. tongue in cheek dark sarcastic type humor as we see that it indeed may be true, so what is going to DO about it! The answer doesn't come until the end, but it's a great ride.
review 2: Dissapointing... not at all gripping like Leather's more 'conventional' thrillers, Nightingale plods round the pages as people continually tell him 'you are going to hell, Jack Nightingale' before dying in various predictable ways. The book feels like you have read it all before, in fact you probably
... morewatched it on tv in the 70's and fell asleep then. I really just hung on for the payoff at the end, to be slightly entertained in the final chapter. The adrenalin filled pages of Leathers other books are a fond memory, avoid or prepare to be bored. less

Not the depth of John Connolly's Charlie Parker series, but a great read nonetheless.
