review 1: This was pretty fascinating and answered some questions that the smuggling book I recently finished did not answer about he role of piracy and privateering in the United States. Yet Smuggler's Nation as an excellent companion to this piece of fiction. The amount of violence is always daunting and the pirates are as gruesome as it gets...although The Venetian Conspiracy was pretty horrid in that regard as well. If you are interested in cryptography this is also a book of interest, although it doesn't go deeply into it. I had no idea that Jefferson had cooked up a precursor to the Enigma machine. Actually I had no idea about many things this book brought up, especially the fact that Letters of Marque are still on the books. I was a little disappointed that the exploration of... more piracy did not tell the story of New Orleans, but Berry's books are often driven by locale, and this was an East Coast book. I very much enjoyed the American setting on this one.

Hang on to your Seat – It’s a Roller Coaster!Steve Berry is a favourite author and his recent book does not disappoint. After reading just a few electrifying paragraphs suddenly it would leap effortlessly to yet another scene creating an exhilarating roller coaster of a ride throughout the entire book. Quite remarkable as other books can confuse the reader by jumping back and forth. But not so with the Jefferson Key. It flowed along smoothly, and was a very exciting, suspenseful read. Highly recommended for those action packed readers.
