review 1: In line with earlier books in this series, the fifth volume tells the story of a brüter who finds his mate, except this time the stakes are a little higher. Nari is hunted by a really bad guy, and pregnant, and both those elements add lots of tension. Semyon is determined to keep him safe but finds that he needs help doing it. I liked how both of them needed to learn they can’t do everything themselves – Nari knew but has to learn to trust, and for Semyon, it's a whole new experience.Nari may be the physically weaker of the two men, but he is mentally and emotionally very strong. Determined to save his life and ensure his baby isn't taken away from him, he takes some courageous steps for their protection. He is also the one who saves Semyon's life when needed, and he ... morestands up to any and all who will try to come between him and his mate. I was cheering him on he whole way!Semyon is a big, tough guy, and pretty "traditionalist" in his possessiveness. But he has a better balance than many a macho hero, I think, at least he didn’t strike me as overbearing. Also, he had good reason to be protective of Nari – the man has a criminal intent on murdering after him. Semyon is also so wonderful about Nari's baby – even though he isn’t his kid, Semyon cares for him from the very start. If you like stories about men who will fight for what’s right, if you enjoy a bit of danger lurking just around the corner, and if you're looking forward to the next installment of the Katzman series, you will probably enjoy this book.
review 2: I really enjoy Stormy Glenn books as guilty pleasure reads. However, this Katzman series hasn't worked for me very well. Fortunately, I stuck with it because I enjoyed this read. I liked both the characters. Yes, there was the instant mate for Semyon and it worked for me here. I also enjoyed how Nari fell in love as well. What I also really appreciated that I hadn't run into previously with this author was dealing with a child from a previous relationship. That really worked well for me in this story with these characters. I loved how Semyon not only stepped up in being there for his mate/Nari, but stepped up in being a father to a child who wasn't of his blood. Semyon addressed it well by not trying to push the memory of Katzi senior away and being up front that their son would know his other biological father. Their child will grow up knowing of his "3 fathers" and be loved strongly by the one who is not blood. I loved that as much as Nari did. Wonderful character.I also enjoyed how Nari fought for his child and Semyon. He knew Semyon was alive and fought to hold on to his memory. The whole male pregnancy storyline is out there but it's a fun read to suspend belief for. less
