review 1: This is a very enjoyable book perfect to summer reading. Here you'll read about magic, of course, but from other point of view different to Harry Potter. The book tells the story of two men: one of them Mr Norrell is a "classic wizard" who does "classic magic". He studies lots of magic books about the theory of Magic and speels in general. Indeed, he is the last wizard that does real magic, but there is a black side which you'll figure out along the story. On the other hand, we have the second man. Jonathan Strange. He is completely different to Mr Norrell. He wants to learn everything about magic and to do that he discovers there is only one way: he has to be the Mr Norrell apprentice.Everything goes well until Jonathan Strange wants to go a step forward, he wants to be c... morereative...but creativity is not present in Mr Norrell books...In my opinion this book is too long. Some parts of the book are very boring just because nothing happens. However, I have to say that I'm sure that the author wrote these parts because she wanted to describe every piece of her characters. I recommend this book because is well-written and because you'll dive in a different world based on real locations, as well as because BBC is going to do a seven-episode serie about the book, that, according to iMdb, it's going to be released in 2014.
review 2: Ne samo da ima vsevednega pripovedovalca, ima tudi vsevednega prevajalca, zato iz srca svetujem, da se izogibate opomb prevajalca.Knjiga ima zelo počasen začetek in slog pisanja, ki se ga je potrebno navaditi (nekatere dvomljive prevajačeve odločitve tega ne olajšajo).Sicer je knjiga nenavadna, fantazijska, humorna, vendar takšna ne na prvo žogo, in obeta zanimivo zgodbo v sledečih dveh knjigah. less
