The Hunger Games is a novel, written by Suzanne Collins in 2008. This is the first book in this trilogy. The second book is The Hunger Games: Catching Fire and the third - The Hunger Games: Mockingjay.

The Hunger Games is an annual event, which held as a televised battle. The main characters of this battle are children from 12 to 18 years old from twelve districts. They are selected by lottery and have to fight to death. This time the game is held in Panem, near the Capitol, the main wealthy center. The story is told by Katniss, a 16-year-old girl.

Suzanne Collins was inspired by numerous reality shows, horrible news about Iraq, her father's service at the Vietnam War, etc. The novel received many feedbacks and criticisms, most positive.
