review 1: I liked the book, about a 1920s typist in a police precinct. You figure out fairly quickly that she may be an unreliable narrator and the story about her friendship with "the other typist" picks up speed. The character reminded me a bit of Judy Dench's character in the movie, Notes on a Scandal, which is a compliment. I'm baffled by the ending, and that makes me give it one less star than I would have.
review 2: It took up to chapter four for me to get into the book. The old time era has this off effect on me as being boring. Once the characters actions were fleshed out I was hooked. The ending is thought provoking and doesn't necessarily holds your hand in telling you exactly what is happening though I find that to be a good thing. Some chapters were a bit slo... morew but considering there is no over the top action scenes ie. explosions, car chases, or gun fights and still kept my attention is a spectacular. Check this one out, and dive into the characters themselves. less
