review 1: Quirky read. It lacks the level of depth I like from most stories and is kinda short, but it was still a fun causal read. The characters were pretty much defined, but I would like to see the next book go a lot deeper into who they are, and what makes them tick. Unfortunately though, I don't really expect that to happen. The story dynamics are simple and I'm guessing it'll pretty much stay that way.Sadly if you don't have an interest in cryptozoology you probably won't find much reason to read this book. But seeing as I am crypto crazy I did enjoy it. I enjoyed it right down to the fun facts in the back about dragon legends and how bigfoot got his name. The frequent illustrations were very nice and went well with the story, almost giving it a comic book feel. All in all thi... mores is more of a kid's book then other kid's books I've read. But even with that said I'd check out the next Vol in the series. Again it's a fun casual read for me. I mean after all, if there's one thing everyone should know about me, it's that I love a good monster story.
review 2: It took a while for met to connect to the character in this book but once we got going, it was a great ride. Ben is spending the summer with his grandfather in a very small town (Ben's from LA). In addition to Yiddish lessons, the big draw of the summer is Friday, which is pudding day. Ben discovers a small flying dragon and worm research center and a friend who is prone to trouble and things aren't ever really the same. less
