review 1: This is the sixth and final book in the Charlie Hood series. It's very well written, Parker could make a instruction booklet interesting but, I really can't buy into the ending. The book had too much spiritual/supernatural aspects for me. I also was disappointed in the ultimate fate of Bradley Jones. I'm anxious to see if Parker will continue with this semi-religious bent in his futher novels.
review 2: For me, every word T. Jefferson Parker writes is pure gold. I love and appreciate his compact style, his imagery and his ability to bring life to the contemporary Southern California crime scene. "The Famous and the Dead" is a fitting and compelling ending to his six volume saga of drug and gun running across our border with Mexico, and I loved every minut
... moree I immersed myself in this drama. I'm sad to leave such great characters as Charlie Hood, Bradley Jones, Mike Finnegan as well as their female consorts Beth, Erin and Owens, and hope to see at least some of them again in a future Parker novel. As many have said here, this series needs to be read in full, as allusions to previous events and characters permeate this novel, and the reader would miss much of its impact without experiencing its predecessors. Can't wait until next spring to see what T.Jeff has in store for us! less
