review 1: Let me start by saying that T.A. Webb is now my official fremesis. I love his writing style so much, he writes with an assured, easy style that has the feel of sitting down with a good friend and listening to them tell you a story; this is such a difficult style to get right. I love that T.A. Webb writes this way, but it also fills my small, black heart with jealousy.The plot of this book surprised me. I was expecting a sweet romance and some schmaltz, instead I got cheating, a hot cop, some gun play, and a cliffhanger of an ending that has me onto book two ASAP.I love the MC, Dan. He's reached a point in his life where he finally decides to jump into the unknown. He goes from being a high-powered Atlanta attorney to the owner of a small-town diner. The reader would think ... morethis would be the time for Dan to settle into a nice romance, but instead this is where the intrigue starts.A great book that is highly recommended, BUT be aware that the ending is a cliffie and you will need to move straight ahead to book two.
review 2: I wanted to love this read, but it just didn't happen.I felt for Dan and all his bad luck - well, worse than bad. I liked him as a character. Some things didn't add up for me, and the writing wasn't smooth in spots.I didn't buy there being any chemistry between Dan and Nick. For a long while, I pictured Nick as an older, tobacco - chewing, barely educated cop. Also, I don't recall an author focusing on a man's chest hair during a sex scene before. Odd for me.While I was happy there was an epilogue, I felt like the story was unfinished. The mystery wasn't solved and things were up in the air between Nick and Dan.The story had potential but fell flat for me. I really want to know what happens between Nick and Dan, but don't want to buy book 2 and end up with another cliffhanger. less
