review 1: Awesome after trepidation, I feel like urban fantasy is reaching a level of overload and Tad does high fantasy/world building so well. I was fearful that he had joined the legion of writers jumping on the band wagon and was writing in a less appreciated sub-genre (for myself), leaving that which I loved behind. Turns out I needn't have worried as it was still Tad Williams writing and he was able to breathe a fresh lungful into something that was beginning to fill with to many werewolves and fairy enforcers (for me of course only me)I thoroughly enjoyed the dark and slightly sleazy Bobby Dollar. Look forward to the next installments.
review 2: There was a good chance that this book was going to annoy the hell out of me because I'm a card carrying atheist, but I
... moretook the chance because Tad is a solid storyteller - and I'm glad I took the plunge. This is an interesting mash-up of gum shoe detective tropes and the supernatural. Angel Bobby is something of a smart arse and I confess I found much of his glib monologue a bit on the annoying side, but every so often he said something clever that was just enough to string me along. Of more interest to me was the unfolding theology and I was pleased to see is wasn't coming from a place "Touched by an angel". Hints like the references to Richard Dawkins books and the telling absence of the number one boss suggest this series is heading somewhere interestingly critical of existing religious dogma. These sorts of urban fantasies need another hook to drive the interest. The true heart of this novel is the surprising romance. I was pleased to see Tad Williams can write sexy passages that avoid being sexist - something very few men writing in this genre can pull off. I look forward to seeing where the rest of this series takes me. less

De wereld tussen de hemel en de aarde en een heel nieuwe manier in het licht gebracht. Verfrissend.
